Contrast is one of the most important design principles when it comes to a room’s first impression. Contrast gives a space a visual impact through colour, shape and texture.

Contrast through colour is the most obvious. This image has utilized two colours that are on the opposite sides of the colour wheel. The dark blue wall makes the Orange sofa more dominate and pop out.

This image has used contrast through the use of texture around the space. The rough brick wall contrasts the smooth surface of the lounge an table top.

Shape is also a great way to add contrast to a space. This image has achieved this through the sharp corners of the wall to the round edges of the furniture.

Black and white is always a stylish colour scheme that visually creates a strong impact to the space.
